Arrived in Dubai after a pretty strenuous 19 hour journey. Please remind me next time not to select a window seat as its nearly impossible to climb over sleeping bodies in order to stretch my legs. My friend Mohamed met me at the airport at 6am, then we left for an undeveloped part of Dubai in the 35 degree early morning heat.
We visited a number of sites including Palm Tree Island, the Burj Al Arab, the Emirates Mall, the Burj Khalifa, and of course the largest mall in the world - the Dubai Mall (equipped with a ski slope, the world's largest aquarium, and over 1000 shops). The midday heat reached 50degrees, so much of day orientated around where the best air conditioning could be found!
Visiting the world class Burj Khalifa later that night was absolutely amazing. The water show out front was awesome, and was in sync to one of the world's greatest songs, Thriller - such a fitting song for such a stunning building.
I departed at 2:30am later that night, after a drink at an ice bar close to the airport. Such a great time in Dubai, and I owe it to Mohamed who was a perfect host.

Landing in Dubai at 5:40am. The Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world) can be seen through the dust. |

An undeveloped part of Dubai. Super hot here at 7am. Normally packed, but empty because of Ramadan.

Having a pre-flight drink in an Ice Bar. Such a contrast to the 45degree heat outside! |
