Retracing my Scottish Ancestors' Footsteps

Hello everyone,

Such a busy weekend in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It all began with an early morning train to Glasgow (the fastest in Britain), where I was then met by some of my close cousins - they came to NZ 11 years ago so it was awesome to see them once again. Had to be on my game that night as we went out to the local club so I could gauge how the Scottish nightlife compared to Wellington. The music was obviously not black enough for me, but I had an awesome time - with fun company (yes I do remember most of it thankyouverymuch). And for some reason I had to give my fingerprint on entry to the club ?!

Saturday morning was largely a recovery day, as most of the people reading this can imagine. I was picked up by my cousin, Chris, and taken out to his place in Croftamie - which is just outside of Glasgow - google maps it. It's a small community in the middle of some stunning countryside. Had an amazing dinner cooked by Marie, had a few [constructive] debates, and then crashed to bed.

On Sunday we drove around the Scottish countryside - with the Highlands definitely being the highlight. They don't need too much explaining as I've copied many photos of them below, and I'm sure Sean Bates could summarise the geographical processes leading to their existence. Drove for around a total of 6 hours, but absolutely worth it.

Next stop was Edinburgh. Love this city so much. Great people, food, scenery, shows, and architecture. In August every year, Edinburgh is home to the largest arts festival in the world, so obviously I had to make the most of this. Met up with a friend and ended up going to the only show on in the pub we were drinking at about the history of sexuality. Interesting enough, but gutted I didn't get to see some others.

Watched far too much of the Olympics on TV, but I reckon I'll find a way into one of the events in the next few days.

Flew home tonight to London Gatwick, and arrived back in Camden Town a couple of hours ago.
